This aircraft was, at least on paper, a brilliant design. So impressive that the Marines proposed using it to transport the President! Unfortunately, the price tag ranged from $6.1 billion to $11.2 billion.

Bristol 188

When Chuck Yeager invented the Bell X-1 in 1947, several people tried to build an aircraft similar to it. The Bristol 188 had many drawbacks, including leaking fuel tanks in flight and the fact that it couldn't take off until it reached 300 miles per hour.
