Top 10 first generation fighter jets

9/10 Gloucester Meteor

To compete with the exhaust fumes of the Me.262, Britain introduced its own jet-powered WW2 fighter, the Gloster Meteor. The Meteor, which entered service later, shared the same twin-engine design, minus the strafe wings. Where the Meteor excelled was in its engines; the wing-mounted Rolls-Royce Derwent jets (3600 pounds thrust) gave the Meteor an edge. It remains to be seen how a direct confrontation between the two aircraft would have played out. Germany restricted the Me.262 to its own airspace, and the Meteor likewise never flew over Germany.
